Scheme Overview
The TV Broadcasting scheme aims to help European independent production companies produce a television programme (in principle not intended for theatrical release) with at least three European broadcasters attached.
Which companies can apply?
Independent, European production companies who are producing a European television programme.
Which projects are eligible?
Television programmes, in principle not inte.nded for theatrical release (exceptions apply - see the guidelines), in one of these eligible MEDIA categories:
* fiction, minimum duration 50 minutes
* creative documentary, minimum duration 25 minutes (per episode)
* animation, minimum duration 24 minutes
The television programme must be European, which means:
*majority produced by companies from one or more countries participating in the MEDIA Programme
*with significant participation by professionals who are citizens of the countries particpating in the MEDIA Programme
* the television programme's budget must be minimum 50% financed by European sources.
What things must be in place in order to be eligible?
* At least 50% of the production budget must be in place at the time of submission from third party sources.
* At least three broadcasters from several MEDIA member states must be involved in the financing of the project via contracts or binding letters of commitment.
* Applications must be submitted at the earliest six months before estimated start of production and at the latest on the first day of principal photography.
* The exploitation rights must revert to producer after seven years in case of a pre-sale and after 10 years in case of a co-production with a broadcaster.
How much money is available?
A grant of up to 12.5% of the production budget, capped at €500,000 is available for fiction and animation projects and up to 20% of the budget, capped at €300,000 for creative documentaries.
The overall budget for the TV Broadcasting scheme in this Call for Proposals is estimated at €10.4 million.
What is the period of eligibility of costs?
Costs become eligible six months before the date of submission and end 24 months after the date of submission (for series with more than three episodes and a total duration of more that three hours this can be extended to 36 months after the date of submission).
