5 million awarded to European producers by MEDIA

The latest results have been published for two MEDIA Programme schemes that provide support for producers. Over €700,000 was awarded to four UK production companies from the TV Broadcasting scheme (deadline 28 June 2010), and one UK company was awarded €50,000 through the i2i Audiovisual scheme (deadline 1 July 2010).

 

Through the TV Broadcasting scheme, two UK documentary projects were supported: Brook Lappingreceived €150,000 for Russia and The West, Century Filmsreceived €60,000 for Bad Weather,and two UK animation productions aimed at children were supported: Honeycomb Animation Enterprises' Little Molly Mysteryreceived €92,000 and Target Entertainment Group's Toby's Toy Circuswas awarded €400,000. Across Europe €3.7 million was awarded to 22 different animation, documentary and fiction projects from eight different countries. To be eligible for this production funding, projects must apply before going into production and must have three or more European broadcasters attached to the project.

 

The latest i2i Audiovisual scheme award recipients have also been announced. One UK production was supported: Chalet Girl. This CrossDay Productions film, which stars Bill Nighy and Brooke Shields, was awarded a grant of €50,000. Across Europe €1.3 million was awarded to 40 productions to help support the costs associated with commerical loans - insurance, interest and bank guarantees.

 

In November, MEDIA also published the latest results from the Access to Markets scheme (deadline30 June 2010), which funds initiatives and activities that assist and support European producers and projects. Supported initiatives include the Berlinale Co-production Market 2011, Cartoon Movie 2011and Cinando, an online networking tool.
