The future of the MEDIA Programme: briefing in London

ce

On 6 March 2012 in London, Aviva Silver, Head of the MEDIA Programme at the European Commission, will give an informal briefing and answer questions on the European Commission's proposal for Creative Europe, a programme which will run from 2014-2020 and follow on from the current MEDIA, MEDIA Mundus and Culture programmes with a proposed budget of €1.8 billion. It is proposed that 55% of this budget be allocated to the audiovisual sector under the MEDIA Strand, 30% to the cultural sector under the Culture Strand and 15% to a new financing facility available for both sectors that will improve their access to finance by a system of guarantees.

This free information session is open to anybody with a vested interest in the film and television industry (producers, training providers, distributors, public organisations, cinema owners, sales agents, VOD operators, etc), as well as professionals from across the creative sectors. The briefing is timely as the Commission's proposal is currently undergoing negotiations in the EU's Member States before its final scope and budget is agreed in the next 18 months. In the UK the Department for Culture, Media and Sport launched a public consultation on the proposal which is open until 16 March 2012.

The briefing on Creative Europe will be followed by a seminar for film and television producers intending to apply for MEDIA Development funding before the deadline on 13 April 2012. The Director of MEDIA Desk UK, Agnieszka Moody, will explain the current eligibility criteria and give guidance on how to prepare a successful application.

The event will take place in a central London location. The timetable for the day will be:

13:30-14:00: Arrival and registration

14:00-15:00: Part one (for all): Aviva Silver on the future of the MEDIA Programme

15:00-15:30: Coffee break

15:30-17:00: Part two (for film and television producers): Agnieszka Moody on how to prepare a successful Development funding application

To register for a place please email Jen Wright at MEDIA Desk UK by Friday 2 March 2012 stating which session you’d like to attend (or both). Please put 'MEDIA event' in the subject line of your email.

Please note that places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
