On 17 October 2012, as part of the industry events programme of the 56th BFI London Film Festival, MEDIA Desk UK will team up with Europa Distribution to present a panel discussion for producers, filmmakers, distributors and sales agents entitled 'Facing Windows'.

The panel will comprise international experts, and will be an opportunity for content buyers and sellers to hear about day and date/narrow window releases in a time of radical change for distribution models. The session will tackle the following questions:

  • Is day and date release a risk or an opportunity for independent European film and independent European professionals?
  • As P&A costs continue to rise and independent films have shorter and shorter theatrical runs, will a theatrical release as the prime window of a film’s exploitation hold in the future?
  • What effect do window shifts have on the pre-financing of European works and revenue sharing between producers, distributors and exhibitors?

The panel will be moderated by Wendy Mitchell from Screen International. Confirmed panellists include:

  • Sarah Calderon, The Film Agency, Spain
  • Jakub Duszynski, Gutek Film, Poland, Co-President of Europa Distribution
  • Teun Hilte, Yellow Knife, Under the Milky Way, UK
  • Jonathon Perchal, Artificial Eye, UK
  • Jenny Walendy, The Match Factory, Germany.

Facing Windows will take place on 17 October 2012 from 11:30am to 1pm as part of the 56th BFI London Film Festival, and will be followed by a networking lunch.

Europa Distribution was founded in 2006 and has rapidly grown its membership to include 125 independent distributors in 26 countries. It has become a key voice championing Europe’s independent film industry, and acts as a lobby and a think tank. It organises several network activities for its members throughout the year, with the support of MEDIA.

Please note, MEDIA Desk UK is not handling RSVPs for this event. If you would like to attend, please send an email to the BFI Industry Events team with FACING WINDOWS in the subject line, and you will be sent full venue details. You do not need to be a festival delegate, but places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
