ENGAGE opens for applications

ENGAGE, a training initiative for writers, writer/directors and producers is open to all European final-year film and animation students and recent graduates. Building on the success of the first three ENGAGEprogrammes, which have now seen 74 participants from 16 countries build creative bridges and projects under the expert guidance of industry practitioners and staff from each of the partner institutions, ENGAGEhas just opened applications for the 2011 course.

ENGAGEis the product of collaboration between four European institutions: Screen Academy Scotland at Edinburgh Napier University, the National Film School at IADTin Ireland, the Baltic Film and Media Schoolat Tallinn University in Estonia and the School of Art and Design at Aalto Universityin Helsinki, Finland. Offering a combination of networking events, pitching sessions, project surgeries and case studies, ENGAGE aims to give participants a better understanding of international co-production processes and the nature of collaborative project development.

ENGAGEconcentrates on three key areas:

  • Development and co-production of fiction, documentary and (new this year) animation features for the European market
  • Production and distribution in the digital age
  • Screenwriting for low-budget, international films and television dramas.

Applications are now open for ENGAGE 2011, which will comprise the following sessions:

  • Workshop 1: early April 2011, Dublin, Ireland
  • Workshop 2: mid-June 2011, Edinburgh, Scotland
  • Workshop 3: mid-September 2011, Tallinn, Estonia and Helsinki, Finland.

The cost per participant is €500, which includes tuition, accommodation and food at all three workshops, along with script translation where appropriate. Participants will have to arrange and cover the cost of travel to each workshop.
