MEDIA-supported training courses announced for 2011

The MEDIA Programme has just announced its support for a raft of new training courses for European screen professionals in the areas of script development, project development, production, management, legal, finance, marketing, distribution and exhibition, animation, documentary, digital media and new technologies.

There are a number of new courses taking place in the UK, including the Crossover Commissioning Labs and Summit, organised by Sheffield International Documentary Festival . The National Film and Television School received funding for Inside Pictures 2011 for the first time, and Peaceful Fish Productions received support for Closing the Gap: Investment for 360º Content. Other new courses include Sweden-based Hyper Island 's course, Creating Content for Mobile Platforms Masterclass, the Aristoteles Workshop 2011 based in Romania and Hungary's Budapest Cinematography Masterclass 2011.

These new courses are offered alongside some more familiar ones, such as ACE and EAVE for producers and SOURCES 2 , SOS and MFI Script 2 Film Workshops , which are aimed at screenwriters. Documentary Campus Masterschool , EURODOC , ESoDoc and Archidoc are all aimed at documentary filmmakers while Cartoon Masters , The Animation Workshop and Anomalia are designed for animators. New media courses include the UK's Pixel Lab and Transmedia Next , whilst the new technologies courses include 3D Cinema in Europe , Insight Out and TransIStor .

In the sphere of initial training, which is aimed at film schools and higher education institutions and their students, several UK-based projects secured MEDIA funding. TransMedia Lab, a new project from the University of Wales, Newport (Skillset Media Academy Wales) has received funding for 2011. Other UK-based projects funded through the initial training scheme include ENGAGE IV from Edinburgh Napier University, the European Low Budget Film Forum IV from the London International Film School and Passion to Market from the National Film and Television School.
