At Edinburgh International Film Festivalthe UK MEDIA Desk and MEDIA Antenna Scotland presentthe industry sessionVoD - what's in it for me?26 June from 9:15am - 11:00amin Filmhouse 3(industry delegates can register to attend via the industry office)The MEDIA Call for Proposals for the support of Video on Demand and Digital Cinema Distribution is currently taking submissions. After an enthusiastic response from the industry last year, the scheme's budget has been increased to €5.9 million. This money is available to European operators in the areas of VoD and DCD to build and promote online distribution services. In this industry session we will present two of last year's beneficiaries: Movieurope and Moviepilot. Both services have now launched and offer new distribution opportunities for filmmakers worldwide. John Dick who manages the MEDIA VoD scheme in Brussels will also present this year's guidelines and explain how to apply for MEDIA support. Movieurope is a Scandinavian VoD service which is a co-operative owned by several hundred filmmakers and venture capitalists. It has around 5,000 titles in its catalogue and is available in 13 countries. The service will be launching its English version in September 2008. Movieurope follows the ethos of 'individual freedom and collective strength' and its ambition is to enable filmmakers to exploit their rights directly via online distribution channels. Moviepilot is a German service which had its origins in a music online community portal. It relies on a highly personalised offer, a closely targeted audience, word of mouth, and a strong editorial angle. Moviepilot claims that most films can find an audience, the challenge is to match the right product with the right viewer. The platform aims to become established in five languages and seven territories, including the UK, by the end of 2008. We hope to see you there!
