Fantoche was first launched in 1995, with the aim of providing the global animation scene with a regular forum in Switzerland. The international animated film event is among the top festivals for animated films worldwide, and is the largest and most important cultural event in Switzerland. The festival is both an audience magnet, and a meeting place for national and international experts.

Fantoche features an international and a national short-film competition, a carefully selected programme of animated long films, special themes with an in-depth look at the medium of animation, a varied programme for children and school groups, as well as a differentiated range of talks, panel discussions, presentations and exhibitions.
