The Republic of Macedonia has become the 31st country to join European Film Promotion (EFP), an international organisation that promotes and markets European cinema worldwide, and that now consists of 30 promotion organisations from 31 European countries.

On the arrival of the Macedonian Film Fund, EFP President Éva Vezér said, "EFP is pleased to welcome the Macedonian Film Fund as the newest member organisation...every new member gives input according to its individual history and takes advantage of our international marketing platforms."

The Republic of Macedonia has a strong cinematographic heritage, with a number of recent feature films winning awards and being selected for international film festivals, including Jas sum od Titov Veles (I am from Titov Veles), directed by Teona Strugar Mitevska, which was named as the official entry for the 2009 Academy Awards for 'Best Foreign Language Film', and Prevrteno (Upside Down), directed by Igor Ivanov Izy, which screened at Karlovy Vary and Thessaloniki and won the Best Director Award at the Valencia Film Festival.

Founded in 2006, the Macedonian Film Fund seeks to develop the traditions of the nation's cinematography, to encourage the production of new cinema and to increase international recognition through the marketing and distribution of its national films.  On joining EFP, Darko Baseki, CEO of Macedonian Film Fund said, "being a member of European Film Promotion gives us the opportunity to promote our cinema abroad.  All promotion events organised by EFP are a great chance for providing films, actors, directors and producers with an open door for collaboration in Europe and the whole world".

EFP is supported by MEDIA.
