Strong MEDIA presence at this year's Venice International Film Festival

Pepperminta, directed by Pipilotti Rist, received MEDIA funding, and will be screened at the 66th Venice International Film Festival

The 66th Venice International Film Festival, held from 2-12 September 2009, will screen 16 MEDIA-funded films.

 

The aim of the festival is to raise awareness and promote all aspects of international cinema: as art, entertainment, and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and tolerance. The festival will include retrospectives and homage to major figures as a contribution towards raising awareness of the history of cinema.

 

The official line-up of the 66th Venice International Film Festival includes the following MEDIA-funded films:

Baarìa - La porta del vento, directed by Giuseppe Tornatore (Italy)
Celda 211 (Cell 211), directed by Daniel Monzón (Spain)
Cosmonauta, directed by Susanna Nicchiarelli, (Italian)
Det enda rationella (A Rational Solution), directed by Jörgen Bergmark (Sweden)
Lourdes, directed by Jessica Hausner (Austria)
Mr. Nobody, directed by Jaco van Dormael (Belgium)
Pepperminta, directed by Pipilotti Rist (Switzerland)
Soul Kitchen, directed by Fatih Akin (Germany)
Valhalla Rising, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Denmark)
White Material, directed by Claire Denis (France)
Zanan-e bedun-e mardan (Women Without Men), directed by Shirin Neshat (Germany).

 

Tarik Saleh's debut animation Metropia received MEDIA i2i Audiovisual and Development Single Project funding and will be screened during International Critics' Week. The Italian MEDIA-funded documentaries Videocracy, directed by Erik Gandini and Il colore delle parole, directed by Marco S. Puccioni will also be screened.
