MEDIA awards almost €1 million to networking initiatives across Europe

New results have been published from MEDIA's Access to Markets scheme (24/2009, 7 August 2009 deadline) and €970,000 has been awarded to eight organisations across Europe to arrange promotional events or organise online tools to aid European audiovisual professionals, or improve access to markets for those professionals and their work.

 

The largest award of €350,000 went to Cineuropa for their website offering daily news updates on Europe's audiovisual industry, as well as an online feature film and industry database. Reelport were awarded €170,000 for the Pro2Film website, which uses innovative technology to do the job of a search engine and provide an index to some of the largest film information databases for professionals already in existence. Europa Distribution were awarded €110,000 for their network of independent distributors.

 

Three other funded initiatives specifically targetting the documentary sector are the Thessaloniki Film Festival's International Documentary Market 2010, the DocsBarcelona Pitching Forum 2010, and Reelisor, the Documentary Campus online information portal.

 

The Sofia Meetings 2010, pitching sessions which take place alongside the Sofia International Film Festival, were awarded a grant of €75,000 from ther MEDIA Programme. Film New Europe, a news website focusing on daily updates from the audiovisual industry in Eastern Europe, also received a grant of €75,000.
