MEDIA International returns with €1 million for international co-operation

MEDIA International is a European Commission initiative that supports the co-operation between European audiovisual industry professionals and those from other continents. The Call for Proposals for 2010 has just been published and will close on 31 March 2010. Prospective applicants are invited to form partnerships co-ordinated by a European organisation and involving partners from non-European countries.
These partnerships can propose initiatives in the areas of training and access to markets and could obtain up to 80% funding as a non-repayable grant. The objective of the submitted training activities should be the exchange of information, international expertise and knowledge of audiovisual markets. The successful access to markets initiatives will aim to improve the profile and presence of European professionals and availability of content at trade fairs outside Europe, as well as the profile of non-European works and professionals at European markets. The projects can start from 1 August 2010 and must be completed by 31 March 2011.
To date MEDIA International has funded over 40 initiatives supporting collaboration with numerous non-European countries and regions. These include Canada, Latin America, Asia and Africa. Find out more about projects supported by MEDIA International.
Later in 2010 (in September TBC) the first Call for Proposals for the successor of MEDIA International, MEDIA Mundus will be published with a budget of €5 million. Given the increased financial resources MEDIA Mundus will support initiatives in a wider range of areas including skills acquisition, access to markets, distribution (including online), exhibition and film literacy. MEDIA Mundus will run for three years until 2013.
