Aviva Silver to give keynote address at Film Education conference

Aviva Silver, Head of the MEDIA and Media Literacy Unit at the European Commission, will give the keynote speech at the forthcoming Film Education conference, 'A New Vision of Europe: the role of European Cinema in Teaching and Learning'. This one-day event will take place in London on 19 March 2010, and will bring together participants from the world of film, policy and education to explore how film can be used to create a deeper understanding of European culture in education.
Places at the conference are offered free of charge, and will will give teachers and other education professionals the opportunity to exchange ideas on the following topics:
- The place of European film within the school curriculum
- Pedagogical approaches to the use of film in education
- Case studies of using film within the curriculum.
The conference is designed for teachers of citizenship, film studies and languages; head teachers interested in expanding their school curriculum; cinema-based education officers; literacy advisors in Local Authorities and representatives from cultural institutes and embassies. The conference is supported by the EC Representation in the UK and is produced by Film Education in collaboration with the British Film Institute, the
UK Film Council, London Gifted & Talented and the Film: 21st Century Literacy project.
