€250,000 funding for Wild Bunch - sales agent awards and new scheme open

The results have been published for the latest Sales Agents scheme (Call for Proposals 13/2008). The function of the scheme is to support sales agents who pick up European non-national films, so the results are a fair representation of the European international sales companies that are not adverse to picking up foreign product.
In 2008 the MEDIA Programme had forecast that €1 million would be generated by sales agents, but in fact over €2 million has been applied for. 30 companies from eight different countries have generated funds under this scheme, which had a deadline in November 2008. These results show the best ever year for UK-based sales agents with Content Film, HanWay Films, High Point Films, Taskovski Films and The Works all generating funding. Together they have generated €229,000.
French sales agents again dominate the results with over 50% of the subsidy being generated by companies based in France. Wild Bunch were awarded over €250,000, the biggest award to any single company, along with over €100,000 going to Celluloid Dreams. Other big awards in Europe include Denmark's TrustNordisk with over €200,000, and Germany's Beta Film with €190,000.
The long-awaited Sales Agents Support returns for 2010 with an increased budget of €1.5 million to distribute amongst European sales agents. The scheme remains linked to the performance of sales agents, and the funding can still only be used for sales guarantees and marketing costs of non-national European films. The scheme has been modified and simplified (less paperwork is required) while the reinvestment period has been further extended. The generation deadline is on 30 April 2010.
